Master Trainer Trainee Info


Master Trainers are Nationally Certified ROMA Trainers (NCRT) with the following characteristics:
  • Have been an NCRT for at least two years;
  • Have conducted at least four Introduction to ROMA Trainings beyond Phase IV Field Evaluation (could be with a co-trainer or as a sole presenter) with most recent delivery being within 12 months of applying to become a Master Trainer;
  • Have attended In-service Continuing Education Programs annually;
  • Participated or presented at state, regional, or national conferences;
  • Have worked with at least two candidates through the training and certification process to demonstrate:
    • A clear understanding of the key points of the ROMA curriculum
    • Ability to help a candidate achieve a high level of familiarity with the content of the Introduction to ROMA curriculum;
    • Ability to provide constructive evaluative comments to a candidate to enable him/her to hone presentation skills.

Master Trainers may be asked to provide these services:

  • Review and respond to Phase I eCourse submissions
  • Assist in Phase II -- delivery of Train-the-Trainer or Implementer Portfolio Preparation (either virtually or in-person) -- with another Master Trainer or Master Trainer Trainee
  • Observe and provide guidance for Trainer Practice Sessions (Phase III)
  • Observe, score and provide feedback for Trainer Field Evaluations (Phase IV).
  • Provide Implementer Portfolio guidance (Phase III)
  • Review and score Implementer Portfolios (Phase III) and/or Exams (Phase IV).
  • Provide support and guidance to candidates and certified professionals.

Master Trainer Trainee (MTT)

NCRTs who have the characteristics identified above may submit an application to become a Master Trainer. Following review and discussion with the ROMA Peer-to-Peer Project Director, the individual will become a Master Trainer Trainee (MTT).

The MTT will engage in an individualized process of learning the responsibilities of the Master Trainer role by completing the following steps:

  • Attending/participating in two Train-the-Trainer Phase II sessions. This will provide experience with how the delivery of modules is presented to candidates in a training setting. It will provide an opportunity to deliver feedback and support to Candidates and to understand the activities and responsibilities of the Master Trainer in this setting.
  • Assist Trainer Candidates to prepare to present during Phase II.
  • Act as Mentor to Trainer Candidates during Phase III.
  • Participating in Field Evaluation with a Master Trainer for two candidates. This will provide experience in documenting observations and establishing scores. Interaction with the project director will ensure observation notes and scoring habits are consistent across Master Trainers.
  • Reviewing two NCRI Portfolios, providing comments and scores. This will provide experience with delivering responses to the prompts of the portfolio and will also improve understanding of the challenges individuals are facing related to implementation of the full ROMA Cycle.

Submission of a report of these steps will be the final activity of the MTT before certification as a Master Trainer.
